Clara Barton, Capturing America's Conscience

"The Concord Red Cross reflects the bright sprit of a remarkable woman who risked her life to put her humanitarian ideals into action and won a grateful nation's commitment to her cause."

Clara Barton

Clara Barton circa 1875.
Barton had the original of this image retouched and added the German Red Cross Field Badge shown on her collar. It was her favorite image of herself.

No name better symbolizes the spirit of caring and of active volunteerism than Clara Barton, founder of the American Red Cross. The human devastation of the Civil War both horrified her and ignited her determination to make a lasting difference. Whether nursing the wounded on the battlefield or making impassioned pleas to Lincoln’s White House on behalf of those in urgent need, Clara Barton moved the nation. She brought the fledgling International Red Cross Movement to America, with its dedication to easing human suffering and its reliance on voluntary support.

The Clara Barton Society honors Americans who share her caring and commitment through their generous support of the American Red Cross.

Turning Your Compassion Into Action

Through its broad range of humanitarian services, the Concord Area, Lakes Region and North Country American Red Cross touches the lives of thousands of individuals in our community. Your neighbors in crisis may include a family left homeless after an apartment fire, a person undergoing emergency surgery in desperate need of lifesaving blood, or a toddler who falls into a swimming pool and, in the blink of an eye, must have expert emergency assistance to survive.

People rely on the Concord Area, Lakes Region and North Country American Red Cross to be there when it's needed - down the street, across the country, and around the world. And, for more than a century, the Red Cross has kept faith with the American public ... thanks to compassionate partners who understand our reliance on the generosity of our neighbors to fulfill our mission.

Your support means that disaster victims get food and shelter, that refugees in war-torn countries have medical care, that accident victims get a second chance at life. Your gifts also set an example for others who share your concern for those in need of Red Cross services who have nowhere else to turn.

When you join the Clara Barton Society, you demonstrate your commitment to supporting the humanitarian work of the Red Cross.

Honoring Your Active Support

The Clara Barton Society honors your total annual giving in support of your local Red Cross chapter. All types of gifts—cash contributions, securities, property, the value of goods and services—will be acknowledged toward your membership in the society.

The Clara Barton Society recognizes giving at four levels:

    Friend's Club $1,000 - $4,999
    Sponsor's Club $5,000 - $9,999
    Pacesetter's Club $10,000 - $24,999
    Benefactor's Club $25,000 - $49,999

Your membership in the Clara Barton Society makes you an active partner in carrying out the work of the Concord Area Red Cross. As a society member, you will receive progress reports from the chapter chairman and manager, you will be invited to attend the chapter's annual meeting and other chapter events as a special guest, and you will be recognized in the Chapter's newsletters and other publications. We also hope that you will allow us to present you with a certificate of appreciation and a special pin, which will formally recognize you as a valued supporter of the Red Cross.

We will be happy to have the opportunity to answer any questions you may have about membership in the Clara Barton Society, as well as your overall giving plans.
